The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan

I think I would be amiss if I did not review The Lightning Thief next. With the TV show just streaming, and with the fact that I was selected as my school's dramaturg for The Lightning Thief Musical, this review comes in a timely fashion.

Before I discuss the TV show or any other adaptations (which I will discuss in later posts), I'd first like to review the book itself, which I first read in 2017.

When I first started this book, I was thinking 'this is the weirdest thing I have ever read. I love it'. From there, the whole series changed me. Heroes of Olympus was also a WOW. It all started with this one simple little book. I am in a state of despair from being away from these characters now. What a beautiful story! You learn so much about mythology as well. Like myths and the Olympians and WOW. That's all this series is-- WOW. Percy is an amazing character, and if you are looking for a new series to read, read this. Then you'll understand why this series is so 'dam' amazing. 😋

To get more into the story:

The story is told in first-person by 12-year-old Percy Jackson, a "troubled kid" who has been kicked out of 6 boarding schools and has ADHD and dyslexia. You just feel bad for him right off the bat. As you keep reading, you learn Percy had a terrible stepfather. His mom is amazing though. Honestly, his mom's and his relationship is one of my favorites in the book (besides obvious PERCABETH shipping). Percy is what is known as a demigod. His father is a god, but which one is a reveal for the book!

Percy also has a friend called Grover, his only true friend that he has made. How sad is that? A character with flaws is always better, though. Perfect heroes are never fun.

Also, I love Camp Half-Blood. Demigods are so cool! I would totally want to go to this camp. Though, being a demigod is dangerous.

I have so many positive thoughts towards this book. Main characters and usually not your favorite, right? Well, Percy will be. He is a perfectly rounded character. I also really enjoy Luke as a character. I think he is one of the best-written "side" characters of all time.

Then, there is Annabeth. Oh wow. I could tell she was going to be a great friend of Percy's just from "you drool in your sleep." What a beautiful line. Now, when I go back and see them fight, I am just like 'they are soooo perfect!' It's sort of funny really. It truly was love at age 12. They are a perfect couple. 100%.

Anyway, I think you get the point. Keep Calm and save the world with a pen. And on yeah, read PJO.
