Trashy Romance?

The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han

Did I read this book because I wanted another “trashy” romance? Why yes, yes I did.

Is that all this book is? No, not at all.

This is a book of two sons’ love for their mother, fear of what death will mean for old dreams, and a love for a place and everything it stands for in your mind. It is romance, but not just romance between Belly and the boys, but also a romance with a place, with a time, with the past. The characters are rich and interesting. I rate this book so high because it makes me feel nostalgic for childhood, and also makes my heart ache for Beck’s boys.
